the charge of assaulting him with a
dangerous weapon. On being arraign
ed before Justice Taylor a plea of not
guilty was entered by Rhine, and his
preliminary hearing was set for Friday
morning, and his bail at $1000. Mr.
trkstlne alleges that Rhine flew Into
a temper without any apparent reason
and seined a knife and club and threat
ened to use both on him.

scare, concerning which the Grants
Pass Courier says; "Dr. Loughridge
reports that Miss O. J. Tarbell, teach
er of tho Adveiltlst Bchool at E and
Eighth streets, is suffering from' an
attack of small pox, although tho' dis
ease is not in a violent form. Miss
Tarbell taught in the school Monday
and Tuesday before the nature of her
illness was determined, and before be
ing quarantined had broken out with
