night, and not reopened until the regu
lar ononing time next morning has
been received by Postmaster W'arner
who Is the custodian or the federal
building and who will comply with the
order Just as soon as an outdoor letter
box can be placed to receive mail dur
ing the night. While the order only
says that this change Is made to Bafc

robbery and other crime epidemic

The large delegation of Medford
people, which numbered 75, who at
tended the New York Chamber Music
Society concert In Ashland last night
are unanimous In declaring that It was
the greatest orchestration concert ever
heard in the Rogue River valley, "liy
all odds It was the finest concert ever
heard In this section, and the work of
these 11 superb artists was wonder
ful," says George Andrews. As so often
with some extraordinary musical at

"Mayor Demaray Is In receipt of a
letter from a Portland attorney who
Is representing pugilists who wore par
ticipants in the bouts here last Friday
night," says the Grants Pass Courier
It is alleged In tho letter that Jimmy
Duffy and John Vedoff came hero from
Portland under a contract to pay the
former $150 and .the lattor $100 with
faro to Grunts Pass and return. The
attorney tolls tho mayor that Duffy
given but ' $60 and Vedoff $10,
and that they had to pay their own
way back to Portland, and ho asks
that tho mayor talto tho matter up
with the boxing commission which he
appointed. The attornoy says that.

No one was Injured in a collision be
tween two cars on the Pacific highway
between Medford and Phoenix last
night because they were running slow.
B. S. Simpson, Mrs. Kent and Mr. and
Mrs. Davis, of Williams creek, were
enroute to Ashland in a Ford car when
the front wheel of another Ford auto,
No. 51614, enroute to Medford, struck
the fender of the Simpson car, and the
impact of collision turned both cars
completely around. Each car was so
badly damaged that It was put out of
commission. The riders in each car
claimed that the collision was 6ue to
the fact that they could not see the
lights of the other car.

Barrett, 8 years old, shared heroic
honors with a pet parrot in a tale of
fire at sea told by passengers landing
from the steamship Cartago here yes
terday. The little golden-haired girl,
who is a daughter of Edward Ware
Barrett, a newspaper publisher of Bir
mingham, Ala., revised to enter a life
boat until she had brought her parrot
from her stateroom. Her Insistent de
mand that the bird be rescued calmed
something approaching a panic.
Frightened men and women paused
to laugh at the calmness of tho child
and her concern over her pet. When
the steward brought the parrot ho also

overheated motor, had been brought
under control.
