Linn county is putting on a system
atic businesslike campaign for the or
ganization of a strong county farm
bureau. The work is being carried on
under the direction of Cieo. L. Gray
from Missouri.
The interest shown by the farmers
of Linn county, says Mr. Joy, is Bur
prising. , "Wherever we went wo were
met by large groups of wide awake,
intelligent farmers who fcol keenly the
need of organization," said Mr. Joy.
"They attended the meetings with no
thought of being entertained. They
came for business and are anxious to
learn of the Farm Hureau movement
In all its aspects, national, state and
county."
Saturday, one hundred of the leading
farmers of the county sat down to' a
luncheon at the St. Francos hotel in
Albany. The splendid attention given
and the keen Interest shown in an ad
dress given by Geo. Mnnsfiold of Mod
ford, president of the State Federation
of Farm niiroaim, points to a success
ful future for the Linn county move

LISDON'. One of the oldest and
best known bankers of this city was
recently saved from the effects of a
run on his bank by a sensational inci
dent. A large crowd of depositors had
gathered at the office of the banker,
J. H. Totta, to demand their money.
The street was blocked by tfSem. The
firm was paying out the money rapid
ly when a well known Lisbon mer
chant who was a spectator of the rush
on the bank, enraged by the scene,
jumped on the counter and reviled the
crowd In no measured language. He
recalled the honorable name of the
head of the firm and said that by his
kindly aid many of those present had
reaped fortunes, but their baBe Ingrati
tude was now threatening to bring
about his ruin.
As his eloquence Increased, an extra
ordinary transformation scene took
placo. Someone raised a cheer which
was echoed by thousands. The bank
employes who had calmly been paying
out thousands of pounds to all who
claimed their deposits wero embraced
by the depositors, check r wero torn to
pieces and the elder Totta, 80 years
of ago, was dragged from an innor
offlco and raised on the shoulders of
the crowd amid cheers.
Since then the bank has received
nearly all tho money that had been
withdrawn.
