ASHLAND. Dec. 31. In outlining
work for the New Year, the local
unit of the Woman's Christian Temperance-union
will meet lit the city
library, next Tuesday, Jan. 4. There
are a group ot activities to consider,
notable among them, as an initial
one, being au "Americanization ("en-
ler," such as we find established in 1
the larger cities, home teaching in j
the household being the basis of the I
plan. Foreign speaking citizenship is
visited personally, the families being
coached in the F.nglish language, and
as a further result the children me
rapidly being Americanized in tlio
public schools. In tills practical, ef
fective way, the W. C. T. V. is a
lending contributing factor. One does
not have to go to the large eastern
and central western centers exclusive
ly, to find the foreign clement among
which to work, as Pacific coast local
ities furnish their full quotas in this
respect.
Then there are nearly a dozen re
iounl conferences to be taken into
consideration, to be held for the pur
pose . of advancing Intensified activ
ities along the lines of child welfare.
citizenship, scientific temperance In
struction, etc.. The nation at large
will bo represented in these confer
ences, one ut Boise, Idaho, and anoth
er at Seattle, Wash., being the near
est points to our local territory.
"Law enforcement," as applied i to
prohibition, will bo a keynote at the
deliberations of these assemblies.
The department of "Social Moral
ity" is also receiving specific atten
tion, It furnishing a fertile field for
work among young people, it being
tho general policy of the organization
to inculcate the desirability of adopt
ing preventive measures In this re
spect rather than combatting evil ten
dencies after the sumo have- becoino
firmly established. At the Francos
E. Willnrd school, located at Helen
New Mexico, this phase ot work will
supply both vocational and academic
training for dependent girls.
Evanston, Illinois, . is the head
