EAGLE POINT EAGLETS
Bv A. C Howlek
J. Monia of Brownsboro, has been
naullng lumber from our depot to
build a new bam on his place. '
Thomas Farlow and Wm. Nickel
of Lake creek, were visiting our town
Wednesday.
Hi 1. Mills of Medford,- formerly
the business manager of the Butte
Falls Lumber company, passed thru
here Wednesday on his way to Butte
Falls. ,.
i' Wednesday about noon .Roy W.
Flndley, L. E. Wlaokir, the two Bran
don brothers, the owners of the
Snowy Butte flour mill of this place
but now have tlfe Central Point mill
leased and are letting their own mill
remain Idle, were here for dinner
Wednesday and so were Mr. and Mrs.
Roy Stanley and his father, Wm.
Stanley, Harry Smith and Albert Con
ley were here for dinner Wednesday.
Gradon Childreth has moved Into
the Argalee Green house.
J. H. Heckner of Brownsboro who
is In the employ of the United States
spent Wednesday night at the Sunny
side and so did Jay Davis of Derby,
Mr. Davis going to his home on the
stage.
John Esch, one of our staunch far
mers, was in town having his team
Bhod getting ready to haul in bis hay.
Mr. Esch and son Carl aro tho owners
of what is known as the J. D. Single
ton farm and report that' they had
their first cutting of alfalfa down
and that it would take about a weeK
for them to haul It In, that there
would not be as much hoy outhe
place this season as there has Been
as last year Mr. Singleton plowed m
quite a lot of Jhe alfalfa land and
eewed It to wheat, and that the young
alfalfa was not matured as yet. Thei
have one of the best places in this
section and are assured of an abun
dant harvest.
'. Dr. Conroy and wife of Medford,
ailed Wednesday evening for supper
ou their way home.
Thursday was one of the busy dayB
in Eagle Point, It not only being the
day that the Eldridge Creamery &
Produce company have their truck
visit our town and community but wo
had on that day Miss Lydia Doolittlc,
millinery specialist, O. A. C. exten
sion service, among us and wora nan
been sent out to each one of the
urrounding country that she was
coming to give free instructions to
all who desired to learn as to how to
mnlcB- trim, or remodel their old nats
PECT
and the consequence was that by
noon she found that she had not come
to our town in vain. She held her
meetings In the Red Cross room over
Geo. Brown & Sons store.
Among the arrivals at the Sunny
side that day for dinner were Miss
Lydia Doollttle, the lady lust referred
to, Mrs. Gergman, J. 11. .Murphy ami
four men all strangers who ato their
dinner and lert before 1 procured
their names. e
In addition to those who came in
for dinner there were Mrs. Charles
Kllngle of Lake creek. Mrs. Geo.
Brown of Brownsboro, Mrs. Herman
Meyer, Mrs. Ed Meyer, Mid. Henry
-Meyer of Luke creek, Mrs. Henry
French and daughter, Miss Mae, and
her father, J. H. French and son
Floyd and Mrs. French's father, Perry
Foster. While sitting talking with
Mr. Foster he incidentally remarked
that he had just received u letter
from Ed, his son, who left a few years
ago and went to Pennsylvania to live
but before he left went to the Mall
Tribune office In Mod ford and sub
scribed for the di(lly so that ho oould
hoar from home thru the Eagle Point
Eaglets, and that whenever he receiv
ed tho Mail Tribune he always looked
for the Eaglets for news from home.
I had about mado up my mind to
stop writing as there is but little in
it financially und there is a lot of
work in it, aud other reasons, but
when he made that remark the
thought occurred to me how much
good I am doing in carrying the good
news to the thousands of readers of
that little paper way off out In south
ern Oregon. 1 simply changed my
mind and concluded that 1 would try
to keep at tho work a while longer.
And that is one reason why I men
tion sa many names so that their
friends who aro scattered not only
over the state Of Oregon but over the
entire civilized world, for 1 have re
ceived word from so many telling me
of the comfort they derive from read
ing that class of news In the Eaglets.
Jack Tungate of Butte Falls, came
out, Friday with a truck load of
shakes on his way to Central Point.
Friday Leon E. Reynolds, agent
for Case tractors, Portland, Henry L.
Emstrom, representing J. E. Hasel
tino Co. of Portland, and Noah Fred
erick, representing an oil company of
San Francisco, were hero for dinner.
They all seemed to be doing consid
erable business and lpoked as tho
they were faring well.
Mr. Hamilton, superintendent on
the Fish Lake ranch, took about four
hundred head of mixed cattle from
the ranch to the range near Rm-
cherla prairie Thursday and Friday,
and Ed Dutton who gave mo the item
reported that they had a hard time
driving them thru thp brush, as they
were not used to being driven, hav
ing been kept in a pasture and that
the young .calves were1 a fright to
handle in the timber and brush, many
of them were tho fine Imported stock
that the Dutton compnny have
