The city council at its first meeting
of the month last night disposed of
considerable routine business and de-

recently passed ordinance prohibiting
heavily loaded logging and other veh
icles on the paved streets. The coun
cil authorized Mayor Gates to employ
a special policeman to watch this
hauling traffic.

The fire department was summon
ed late yesterday afternoon to extin
guish a fire on the roof of a box car
loaded with shook, which had just
been shunted onto tho side track by
the Jacksonville railroad engine, a
spark from the smokestack of which
ignited the roof. The blaze caused
little damage, but much concern for
a time as two of the baggage cars of
the "Passing Show" company stood
nearby and were thought to be in
danger. The fire was first discov
ered by D. T. Law ton as he was sit
ting In front of the engine house.
