Final arrangements for the bring
ing to Medford of the biuyest and
most costly attraction ever scut on
tour in the history of theatres in
America were concluded .Thursday
when Felix Risser, general represen
tative of the New York Winter Gar
den was here In conference with
George A. lluut, manager of the Puc'
theatre.
It was while speaking of the tre
mendous outlay of 'money which the
Messrs. Shubert made iu staging the
Passing Show," that Jlr. Rissoi
entered into a discussion of theatri
cal production. lie contends thnt it
is an art and not a business.
Homo people assert that thoatr'ieul
production, at the present time is n
business and not an art. These people
are not business men or they wouldn't
snv that. They have never stopped
to think of the vast sums that arc
lost every year in theatrical ventures.
Business men want greater safety und
certainty in their business.
It, is ha,rd to fiud the public, pulse.
No manager living can say before-
huml thntthis or that production will
be a financial success. Also, no man
ager bus 'ever succeeded in foreenst-
mg the expenses; lie will bo put to m
any. given venture. Tuke transporta
tion,, for instance. ' Imagine tho cost'
of transporting a big company like
Ihe "Passing Show," with its 201)
people, its 10 "curs for actors, scenerv
and costumes, and its army of me
chanics and stage hands.
The cost of production has doubled
over pre-war times. It would probl
ubly have cost about $100,001) to put
on' the "Passing-Show'' in the old
days. Now it costs a fortune.

Raymond Hitchcock and his new
show, llitchy Koo 1919, will draw
tho crowds to tho Pago theatre Tues
day niKht, May 25th. He will, as
usual, be surrounded by a group of
entertainers this timo the number
rtius into three fieuros nnd the much
talked of chorus of "forty under
twenty."
The new Hltchy Koo 1919 has been
the most effective of the series of
llitchy Koos, the famous musical re
viiGs produced by Raymond Hitch
cock.
Heautiful as the new show Is in its
lavish stage decorations, charming
dressing, dancing and girls, laughing
incidents and cheering music, It .is
the personality of "Hltchy" himself
that gives it popular vogue. Krom
beginning to end ho moves in and
out of the sceauB and never lets the
high stepping pitching of the perfor
mance drop in tho slightest degree.
My aim last season" said Hitchcock
recently, "was to have a chorus of
forty under twenty, tho age of nest
and relish, and now, in my 1919
show, I have fully sixty who may
como under this heading, thero Isn't
a raspberry among the bunch."
