PROTECT BLUEBEARD
LOS ANGELES, .May 13. Sheriff
Cllne announced today that because
of numorouB threats made against
the life of James P. Watson, who re
cently pleaded guilty to the murder
of Nina Lee Deloney, and is alleged
to have confessed -the murders of
eight other women he had wed, the
prisoner will be taken secretly to San
Quentin prison to serve the life sen
tence imposed on him here.
The sheriff said he would probably
remove Watson from the county hos
pital by automobile and drive him to
some station a considerable distance
from Los Angeles before boarding a
train.

WASHINGTON, May 13. Mr.
Daniels testified today that Admiral
Sims had objected to the use of the
former German liner Leviathan as a
troop ship on the ground that her
great length made her a better target
for torpedoes than smallef vessels.
He also said the admiral had con
tended that the ship should be oper
ated to Liverpool rather than to
Brest because of better facilities for
handling her cargo.
The department, the secretary said
followed the admiral's advice with
the result that the Leviathan had to
await an entire lunar month at Liver
pool before she could get out of the
harbor. Later the Leviathan operat
ed out of Brest where her turn
around "was measured In hours in
stead of weeks and she broke all rec
ords In the number of troops trans
ported."
Mr. Daniels presented various of
ficial documents to support his con
tention that the convoy system was
originally sponsored by the American
navy and that it was not adopted
fully until several months after the
United States entered the war and
bad sent many destroyers and other
craft overseas .thus providing the
ships to make the operation of the
convoy system possible.
It is known, however, that heavy
rebel reinforcements have been sent
to San Marcos by rebel chieftains.
The latter are making every effort tol
torce the surrender of Carranza's
troops in what is believed will be the
final stand of the rebellion.
General Candido Aguilar, who Is at
Jalpilta, near Orizba, is begging the
rebel authorities for permission to
join the president and share in bis
fate. General Aguilar sent word to
the rebels Tuesday that he desired to
pass thru the liaes to San Marcos and
permission wis given on the condi
tion he would lay before Carranza
the true situation. 'When this reply
was received by General Aguilar, he
broke down and pleaded that he be
permitted to go to President Carran
za and stand by bis side to the end.
