CLUB TO IMPROVE
Committees from tho Greater Med
ford club and the Chamber of Com
merce conferred yesterday afternoon
regarding tho immediate needs of tho
automobile camp ground. The Great
er Medford club committoo have some
funds with which to make temporary
improvements In the grounds now be
ing used which will answer the needs
for the present season. They have
under consideration the building of
extra tables and benches, a number
of stone fire places and provide addi
tional gas facilities in the kitchenette.
Arrangements are bolng made to
have some of tho brush cut out and
theroby make additional space for
auto camp parties. A door is to be
cut thru the Natatorium to provide
toilet facilities.
Tho Improvements bolng made are
only temporary in nature as It is
realized that Medford is in need of a
permanent ground and a solution of
this question is looked for from the
Automobile Cump Ground committee
of the Chamber of Commorce. .

GENERAL WOOD IS
As the personal representative of
General Leonard Wood M'ontaville
Flowers of Los Angeles, the well
known Cliuutuuo.ua lecturer, author
and active political worker in past
presidential campaigns, addressed a
gathering of over 2110 persons at the
natatorium lust night, in behalf of
Wood's candidacy for president.
He indulged ' in no personalities
about other candidates, but confined
bis remurks to straightforward argu
ment intended to show Wood us the
ablest and most ol'ficient candidate
available. With due deference to all
the other candidates he declared that
Wood has had more varied experience
fitting him for tho presidency than
any of our presidents had had before
becoming president.
In bis two hour's address he made
it plain that in his belief the contest
was between Wood and Hiram John
son for the Republican nomination
and that the people would overwhelm
ingly demand Wood. "A vote for
Wood is a voto against Johnson." he
stud.
Mr. Flowers called attention to the
spirit of unrest throughout the conn
try, much of which was fostered bv
a radical foreign clement, which he
am il not euroed might keep on
growing until it threatened the very
principles of. the declaration of in
dependence, and to check which and
restore normal conditions reo.ii.ired the
election to the presidency of an able.
conservative, tested, typical efficient
American of wide administrative ex
perience. like Leonard Wood.
Then the orator sank the fangs o
poison by inference into llirum John
son by saying:
"If we capitalize all the forcu-n
element nnd spirit of unrest in this
country under one head and elect him
as president, no matter how honest he
is and what he personally feels of
patriotism lie will find himself power
less to contend with the new strikes
dissensions, riots and troubles wh'ch
will have arisen through his very elec
tion by Ins having catered to this ele
merit, until tho very existence o our
government is threatened.
With regard to the attacks made
upon Wood by his political onnonemts;
about the prodigious use of money
in Ins campaign, Mr. Flowers do
clarcd that "every dollar of ours is
an honest dollar nnd is honestly and
legitimately spent." He declared the
Wood campaign was principally fi
nanced l)V William Cooper l'l-ncli.r
the millionaire soap manufacturer,
and manager of tho Wood campaign,
and the wealthy fathers of sons who
attended Wood's military training
camps.

enough poison to treat four quarts of
parsnips or carrots. Tho gopher run
ways are located and two or three
pieces of the poisoned bait are placed
in the runways and the holes are cov

very successful method of controlling
this pest and many farmers are re

The damage done to farm and gar

county and every one pestered with
gophers should try this poisoned bait.
The county agent will be glad to fur
