That "70 per cent of tho cases of

II. X. iluo returned last night
from Snn Francisco, whore ho went
to meet representatives of IVew York
jobbing houses. The message that
ho brings back is anything but cheer
ing, for he was told that prices are
still going skyward," snys the Klam
ath Kalis Herald in an interview with
the former well known Medford mer
chant. "I was amazed at what I was told'
said .Mr. Moo in discussing the situa
tion today. "1 met a representative
from Marshall Field, who is out horo
sizing up tbo situation. Ho is in
touch with conditions all over the
world and ho frankly says that the
top has not been reached and that
no man living can tell when H will
bo. Cotton sold In Now York the
other day for $1.40. This is the
long fiber variety uncd In the manu
facture of llslo hosiery, fine under
wear and thp like. That means that
stockings that wo are now selling
tor fifty cents will go to a dollar, and
everything elso will follow suit.
This high price for cotton is tho re
sult of tbo demand from tho auto
mobilo tire manufacturers who uso
this class of cotton in tho manufao
turo of tiros. ' Bis buyors of mer
chandise laid off buying last winter
In hopes of forcing down prices, but
it had no effect, and when they go
back Into the market again they will
clean everything up in thirty days,
and then thero will bo absolutely no
merchandise to got. There is only
one possible solution to It more
production and until wo havo that or
a smash, thero will be no change.
"One move now under way that
should be nipped in tho bud right
now Is tho woaring of overalls. Peo
ple who (fan afford to buy clothes
havo takon up this ridiculous fad,
with the result that the workers who
absolutely must havo overalls will
havo to pay six, oight or ten dollars
a pair for them. Why, they nro mak
ing forty-dollar Butts out of overall
malarial. That shows where an ill
considered move will lead to. bet
those who can afford to buy higher
priced clothes buy them and leavo
tho ovoralls for thoso whoso occupa
tions compol them to buy such ap
parel." '

"SMILE AT MILES"
Gluttons for Punishment
Lee Tires ask no favors of the road.
On rough country roads their tough treads travel
almost, unharmed over sharp and jutting points that,
would tear the heart out of less sturdy tires. On paved
streets and boulevards Leo Tires wear down surpris
ingly and pleasingly slow.
If you knew how to make tires and none but the best
would satisfy you, the Lee Tire is the kind vou'd
build.
So thoroughly good are Lee Tires that you'll get-an
entirely new idea of tire mileage and satisfaction
from the first one you try. Let us show you why.
