ROSEBL'RO, April 2.1. A circular
le:ter sent by Attorney Albert Abra
ham of this city, candidate for V. S.
senator,, to his opponent on the re
publican ticket, Kooort btnnnelu
was given to the press today. Tho
letter makes the league of nations
Btrlct campaign issue with Attorney
Abraham strictly opposed to the
league of nations with or without
reservations and .Mr. Stanfleld in fa
vor of tho loaguo with reservations.
Tho letter Is as follows:
An open letter to tho Honorable
Robert N". StanHcld. Dear Sir: I am
encouraged to beliovo that the re
publican press of the state will be
pleased to publish this open letter to
you which 1 am prompted to write
in tha Internal of tha republican
party.
We are about to enter upon a con
test for the republican nomination
for United Stutea senator. It must
bo apparent to you that tho winning
candidate must bo able to go before
tho general electorate with clean
hands and with no taint or suspicion
of any violation of tbe corrupt prac
tices act. The most eithor of us is
pormittod to expend, in tho primary
for tho nomination is 15 per cent of
the yearly Balary, or tho sum of $1,
125. Tho small amount of advertis
ing either of us can legitimately get
for tills amount of money must bo
apparent. I am frank to stuto that I
cannot afford to spend even this
amount. This, therefore. Is in a
sense, an appeal to your generosity.
The slight advantages there might
bo In such advertisement are insig
nificant when compared to the sor
vlco wo might render to our party,
and consequently to our country, In
sotting a salutary precedent by con
forming to tho letter and spirit of
the primary law.
iYou are standing on a distinct Is-
sue, that of favoring the league of
nations with reservations. I am op
posed to the league with or without
reservations. There can bo no ques
tion as to the Issue between us. If
the majority of the ropubllcan party
aro In favor of your position, you
need not fear the issue. If they aro
in favor of mine, you should not
want to represent them. The same
Is true of myself.
I therefore propose to you to join
with me in a frank gtuluiieut to the
republican party that we will submit
the nuestion of our candidacy to
them upon the above issue, without
furthor expense to either of ub ex
cept such-as may be necessary to
.fairly present the ifsue to the elec
torate; that there shall be no adver
tisement of our candidacies, except
io make known our positions upon
'tho league of nations,; and that,
.whonover there is advertisement of
tho position of either of us, the other
shall, included in the same advertise
ment, at the same time and place,
receive the same amount of adver
tisement as to his position.
This is a-plain business proposition
which should appeal to yon. l'urthor
more, It would permit the whole
party to give a full and free expres
sion of Its position on the groat ques
tion bofore the poople.
I would be pleased to havo you
make a frank answer to this proposal
in as public a manner as tb.'s Is made.

entirely, and ara based upon hi own

The school board at a meeting
Monday night took the' local situa
tion into serious consideration, and
listened to the advice of a largo
number of teachers who wore present

ing tho complaints that have been
made rogurdlng the recent schedule
which wus adopted by the board, and
figuring out tho amount of money
