The following- poison for mixing
and instructions for use thereof is
the method most expedient and effec-'
the to bn used for the extermination
and destruction of such ground squir
rels and is hereby recommended, tt
wit, alkaloid strychnine used on
either b;;rler or wheat, barley prefer
red, mixed according to t lie following
formula and manner, to-wit:
Hurley, clean grain, li quarts.
Strychnine (powdered alkaloid) 1
ounce,
Bicarbonate of soda (baking soda;
I ounce.
Thin- starch paste, :i-4 pint.
Heavy torn syrup. 1-1 pint,
(Myeerino, 1 tablespoon.
Saccharine, 1 - l
This material should be mixed as
follows: Mix thoroughly 1 ounce of
uo wdered strychn inn ( it ! !; aloid ) and
1 ounce of common baking soda. Sift
this into one-half pint of t hi nliot
paste and stir to a sin (.'.it h creamy
mats. (The starch paste is made by
dissolving I heaping tublespoonful oi
dry gloss starch in a little cold water,
which is then added to three-fourth!-pint
of boiling water. Iloil and stir
constantly until a clear thin paste is
formed.) Add one-fourth pint, of
heavy corn syrup ant! one tahlespoMi
I'ul of glycerine and stir thoroughly.
Add 1-10 ounce of saccharine and
stir thoroughly. Hour this mixture
over Hi quarts of lean barley and
mix well so that each grain is coated.
One quart of tin; poisoned grain
mixed as aforesaid is sufficient fo.

tered nlong squirrel trails or on clean
hard places on the surface, about the
holes will not endanger stock. Strych
nine in any form other than the pow
dered strychnine ( Alkaloid 1 is not el
fective in the above formula.
Kwjin the date hereof until May 1st
is the most effective time to poison
and destroy the digger squirrels, as
they are just emerging from their hi
bernation. They are hungry- and
