Its outlook for permanency.
Answering the second of the five
questions most often asked in rela
tion to the expansion and reorganiza
tion cf the Modford Chamber of ('tun
merte, "what ran the Chamber of
Commerce do," a member of the com
mittee makes I ho statement below.
The first question, answered in the
Mail Tribune Monday, was why there
should 1)0 such an organization here.
The three other questions which cov
er other phases of the campaign next
week, and answers to which will be
made this week, are as to how the
chamber will be financed, who will
run It and its c'atlouk for perma
nency. What can the uMedford Chamber of
Commerce do?
It can do anything upon which the
thought and energy of the community
have been centered as needful to he
done.
AVhat it will do depends entirely
upon the. membership. Every mem
ber will have an equal voice in say
ing what it should do, and the doing
of those things will then become a
matter of uniting the wlu.le chamber
to that end.
Putting the question another way.
suppose it is asked: Who is going to
say what the Chamber of Commerce
shall do? The president? Xo. The
directors No. The committees?
No. The members? Yes.
The manner in which the members
will do this is one of the most Impor
tant features cf the expanded Cham
ber of Commerce a feature on which
is based one of the chief appeals Tor

THE ELKS TONIGHT
A good serial time is in store for
the Elks tonight. In addition to ilie
exhibition of legordermain by Jay
Gore, at the social session after the
regular lodge meeting, there will be
an added attraction. "Chicken"
Weiss, formerly of "Med ford, and a
former employe of the California
Oregon Power company, famous for
his many imitations of animals ami
things, will entertain for a few min
utes. Veisa has recently been discharged
from the United Ktates navy. During
his service he was leader of the fa
mous Hardware band, which the navy
sent to the front during the war,
where they entertained the troops.
"Don't miss this. It's good." says
the committee in charge of the social
session features.
be financed, who wdl inn it and I
sional men and women of Medfonl.
In a word, it is the rcfennduin.
Two qnestic as will lie asked of every
member immediaf ly alter the week
of the intensive campaign;
1. What. as. a citi.en. do you
think Is the thing of first importance
for the Chamber of Commerce to un
dertake for the good of the city of
Medford?
What, in your opinion, is thei
fir.il thing (but should l:e undertaken
by the Chamber of (.Ymnieive to im
prove conditions and onpurtuuit ies in
your own line of bnsine-s?
In securing answers to these ques
tions, relianco will not be placed on
mail replies. Cioup Meetings and
conference!! will lie held, discussions
invited and other methods followed,
all intended to (.htaiu from every
member a candid and earnesT expres
sion of opinion or suggestions.
It has been the experience in other
cities that the answers to these two
questions, tho coming from 4oo to
.btm Chamber of Commerce members
classify themselves under compara
tively few Important headings. These
subjects, thus broadly defined repre
sent the planks in the platform cf
work of the expanded chamber.
it is clearly seen here that to the
program of work as thus developed,
the whole membership is pledged,
and it is the duty of the officers and
directors and of the special commit
tees when appointed to concentrate
their whole effort to carrying this
program thrcvugh. The program will
cover a period of at least three years
of activity.
A city's good will is its reputation.

has been in progress fi.r the las! throe

Dailey, but. this information does not
do the fishermen any good now other
than to whet their appetites for the
near approach of the opening of the

legally open until April 1st, and War

a sharp lookout for Illegal fishermen.
The run of salmon will not start
until about April 1st, altho reports,
which Mr. Dailey is inclined to disbe

lower river in the vicinity of Grants
Pass. The river is higher now fol
