So we venture to say the

For Senator Pit rce has a pretty lon head and a pretty
keen understanding, even if he is a democrat. And he
must know,- for he ran for governor himself, that reg

W I iv i I5ecau.se the balance ol power in this state is held
by the independents, and most of the independents reg

So a republican measure that would put the independ
ent voter and the independent office holder, and the citi
zen of independent politics out of the running would nat
urally rile the said independent, so thoroughly that, he
would proceed to vote the democratic ticket straight.
That; must; have been the cause of Walter's joyful
tears, if he looked as far ahead as he usuallv does. And
that is why we maintained

political strategy, tlie advocacy of the 'ole-er-s(raiiilit

And unless we are much mistaken if Senator fierce
runs for governor again, this measure which the (J. -T.
thinks would have so hog-lied and ham-strung the demo

in the .triumph of a partisan organization. Kugene
