AT PAGE THEATER
Walker Whiteside is plavinsr but u
few cities in Oregon, en route from
San Francisco to Portland, and Med
ford is one of them. This fine actor
will appear at the Pane theater oti
Monday niiiht, January 2lith. at which
time be will present his ereat suc
cess, "The Master of Hullmitrae," a
play in three acts, bv Curl Mason,
who' has utilized the dramatic epi
sodes of the Stevenson tale for his
drama.
Walker WhitesMo is too well known
to reuuire extended mention. Suffice
to suv that, in recent .years he has
starred in "The Mcltim: Put." both
in America and in Loudon, where lie
plaved for six months at the Oueen's
theater. "The Typhoon" which dealt
with tile Japanese oucstion, was
plaved for three years bv Whiteside,
and that it created a sensation
wherever shown, noes without .sav
in sr. "Mr. Wu," a Chinese melodra
ma, "The Kairired Messeneer," "Ju
bilee Drex," an Kntrlish play; "The
Pawn," another play of the Orient,
and "The l,ittlc Hrother," a drama
of Jewish life and love, all have
scored Inure hits in the hands of Mr.
Whiteside.
The character of James Durie, the
wanderinir Master of liallantrae, has
proved to be unite the most enter
taining part which Whiteside has had
in a decade. James Uurie. as every
reader of Stevenson knows, is an nr-
rnnt roirue. A one timo soldier, pilule
on the liiuh seas, fiirht cr of American
Indians, delvcr into the occult lore
of the Hindus, and favorite at the
court of France. Jiinies Durie is es
sentially a man of the world. All of
the renins of Walkur Whiteside is
made use of in dclinentinir this many
sided character. "A Scotch Iirao"
as one Toronto critic dubbed him. is
James Uurie. Masteiof the estate of
Ballantrac.

mighty good times ahead fur the ag-..
grcssive optimist.
That's the way we look at it as
young 1920 starts his career.
A few weeks ago things didn't look
so promising. Most of those who
weren't striking were thinking up pet
remedies for what ailed the world.
There was too much scheming, too
little doing, too much unrest.
Hut now the unrest and the quack
economic, remedies are vanishing.
The world is going to work. There is
going to be real production in all lines
where shortages exist. 'And that is
all the world needs. It means better
times for all of us.
The prospect is especially improved
for farm crop prices. There is a
growing stability in the market. Tho
law of supply and demand is again
beginning to prevail. And a world at
work will bring a healthy demand for
a big supply of all food products.
