After despoiling the flocks of
sheep on both sides of the North
Umpoua for several years, as impe
rious eaule measuring six feet ten
inches from tip to tip, was finally
shot this morniur and his annual
visits; to that part of the country
put to an end.
The residents of the North T'ini'oun'

been in the habit of cominir there it
this time every vear, mid making

the v.'irious flocks on the surround
imr hills. Many attempts have been
made to U'et the bird, but it was not
until this mornintr when Alfred Stev
ens, a votinif Ind residing near Wil

the attempt was successful. The bird
weiirhed cidit and three-fourths
pounds, and is an unusually beautiful
specimen. The feet are almost the
-i.e of a man's hands and the claws
as Imisr as bear's claws, enabling it
