Secretary Will Steel of the Com
mercial club, received a copy of the
Portland Telegram's Victory RoBe
festival edition today. The issue is
a very creditable one, profusely illus
trated and gives a splendid outline
of the industrial and agricultural de
velopment of the state. The recent
growth of the Telegram has been
nothing short of sensational, it hav
ing the largest afternoon circulation

The Medford police and sheriff's
force searched all last night for a
young colored woman who arrived In
the city Wednesday evening and bo-
tweon 11 and 12 o'clock robbed
man, a stranger in the city stopping
at one of tho hotclB ot over $500 by
picking his pocket. She overlooked
70 which was in anothor pocket.
Tho woman arrived at Ashland from
California with a colored man in an
auto lato Wednesday afternoon and
canio over to this city later alone.
The alarm was sent out to all sur
rounding cities and towns to the po
lice to arrest tho couple, but no trace
of either had been found at press
time.

engaged to furnish music for the
celebration at Ashland July 3d, 4th
and 5th, which means that the
crowds that attend the celebration
will hear some good music. Medford
has one ot the best bands in the his
tory ot the city.

Frank Madden who sold his hand
some place on the Old Stago road re
cently to Mr. McCaskey of Washing
ton, D. C, has purchased 24 acres
nearby from Mr. Stone, his former
ranch partner and -will probably, build
a residence there which be and Mrs.
Madden will occupy during the sum
mers. Mr. and Mrs. Madden are de
voted to tho Rogue River valley and
while the Madden fishery Interests in
Alaska call the former to Seattle fre
quently thoy both prefer Medford to
any other place on the coast in which
to live. The new property has about
14 acres in young orchard.

Late yesterday afternoon tho fire
department was called out by a grass
fire on South Newtown street, which
burned so close to the Newtown bak
ery and bakery barn as to threaten
these structures, and also threatened
to communicate to an adjoining
wheat field. The firemen extinguish
ed the tire witb the chemical appara

chasing a $90 victrola and $18 worth
of her own high-priced records lo be
sent to a family in Portland whose
members enjoy good music but were
unable to purchase a phonograph.
