COLUJHIUS. O., Juno 17 A choir
of 100 trombones, said to be the lar
gest over organized, will bo a feature
of tho Methodist Centenary celebra
tion horo June 20 to July 13 which
will mark tho closo of 100 years of
missionary work by tho Methodist
Kniscopal church.
Alto and tenor wero the principal
trombones used by the choir which
has ,beea rehearsing for weeks. To
give the complete voicing necessary,
soprano ami bass trombones had to
bo produced la largo numbers and
those accustomed to playing tho tnoro
common trombones had to acquire a
now technique. The sonrano trom
bono, In particular, had not been
used In concert in more than 100
years, according to II. 13. DlcksOu,
organizing secretary.
Special scores had 'to be prepared
for the simplest church hymns and
for the greatest choruses of sacred
and soml-Biicred music. Besides tho
trombone choir, thoro will be a $50,
000 vlpo orgiin, a mixed chorus of
1500 voices, a chorus of 500 negro
singers, a group of trained oratorio
singers and a band from the famous
Rainbow division.
