Harry Carey, famous for his wes
tern characters, probably has had a
more diversified career than any oth
er actor prominent on tho screen to
day. Cowboy, street railway super
intendent, lawyer, actor-manager,
director, athlete, prlreflghter, miner,
expert swimmer and engineer are a
few of his titles. A graduate of the
New York university, Mr. Carey prac
ticed law for a short time, .but soon
gave up the staid profession for a
career as an author of short stories
and plays, and later adopted tho
stage as his life-work. '

The baby show hold In tho city
park Friday afternoon as one of the
Victory Week events was a very suc
cessful affair despite the threatening
weather which greatly decreased the
number ot entries and also kept the
admiring attendance down. As It
was T2 smiling and cooing babies
were entered in competition for the
prises. Tho northeast section of tho
park was roped oft mid the jbnblos
and their attendants were seated on
park benches next the rope whore the
crowd could pass along and closely
view the contestants. The Judges ot
