Medford patrons of soda fountains
rece'lved a severe shock Thursday
and today when after ordering and
consuming their favorite soft drinks
they found they were, charged a war
tax thereon. They had forgotten all
about the revenue bill containing this
feature passed months ago by con
gress and which went Into offect May
1st. And later on, visiting the drug
stores and finding that there was also
a tax on patent medtclnos. toilet arti
cles and the like, and the clothing,'
dry goods, and furniture stores and
finding the war tax on luxuries In
force they became positively peeved.
Yes, folks, the time honored five.
ten, fifteen and twenty cent drinks,
and ten cent dishes of Ice cream and
the like are no more. Uncle Sam re
quires his bit extra In war tax which
the consumers must pay. Also you
must pay a few cents extra to him tor
