siderable time trying to persuade him
to consent to go to Gold Beach to open

mayor finally left the phone with the
promise to further consider the mat'
ter and telegraph his answer. He
later wired that he could not go be
cause such an out of the way trip to
Gold Beach would take htm too long
from his business.

three weeks ago was able to return
today to her borne at Rogue River.

i The city council is cooperating
most generously with those in charge
of the Easter egg hunt, to make the
event a success. The mayor will, by
proclamation, close the park and the
library grounds to the public at 12
o'clock on 6aturday, and absolutely
no adult except those In charge will
be allowed within the limits until the
event is over, and only children from
three to eight years old are asked to
Join In the hunt. The Boy Scout or
ganisation will go on patrol duty at
1:20 o'clock and serve until the event
is over; the, police department also
will assist, and in other ways every
precaution will be taken to safe
guard the little folks.

In eight automobiles the Medford
Elks minstrels and other members of
the local lodge left at 4 o'clock this
afternoon for Grants Pass where the
minstrel performance will be given in
the opera house tonight. After the
show the many Grants Pass members
of the Medford lodge will tender the
visitors a banquet at the Josephine

mance. Herbert Alford who was too

The salmon fishing season opened
on the Rogue last night at midnight
and eight boats, with two men to the
boat Immediately became busy with
their drift-nets, says the Grants Pass
Courier. H. E. Gething, of Oakland,
Cal., who handled the fish for the
fishermen last year, is again in
charge this season, and stated that
only about 200 pounds of salmon
were taken last night. He says the
water Is high and swift and the river
still rising, and does not predict any
heavy catches until about the middle
of May.

and which sailed from St. Navarre,
France is expected tq arrive in New
York on April 20th, and will then
proceed to Camp Lewis to be dis
