home last night from their month's
sojourn at Los Angeles and the ocean
resorts of southern California. Mr.
'Palmer reports bnslness good in Call'
fornia and that the state is literally
crowded with tourists. What im
pressed him forcibly was the large
numuer of tourists of the middle west
farmer class- at Los Angeles and the
resorts in that vicinity. They sold
their grain at a goodly profit and are
spending somo of the wealth gained
from the soil In California.

In its account ot the heroic ex
ploits of William Dewey Herron of
Gold Hill at the battle of Chateau
Thierry, the Mail Tribune last Thurs
day was in error when it stated that
his entire regiment, the -Fifth mar
ines, was decorated with the distin
guished service cross. It should have
been stated that every member of the
regiment was decorated with the
Croix de Guerre, the French army
decoration. In addition, for his con
spicuous bravery, Mr. Herron was
personally cited and awarded the
palm to wear on his cross.
