of returning refueees. Thev looked
cold and forlorn yet did not complain.
Until we saw it with onr own eves we

Daily Health Talks
Where1 Most Sickness Begins
... and Ends
' ',BY FRANKLIN DUAJNiE, M.'D.
It can be said broadly that most
human ills begin in the stomach ana
end in the stomach. Good-digestion
means godd health, and poor diges
tion means bad health. The minute
your stomach falls to properly dis
pose of the food you eat; troubles be
gin to crop out In Various forms. In
digestion and dyspepsia are the com
monest' forms, but thin, impure
blood, headaches, backaches, pimples,
blotchesj' dizziness, belching, coated
tongue, "weakness, poor appetite,
sleeplessness, coughs) colds and bron
chitis are almost as common.' There
is but one' way to have good health,
ana that is to put and keep your
stomach in good order. This Is easy
to do if you take Dr. Pierce's Golden.
Medical Discovery. It. Is a wonderful
tonic and 'blood purifier, and Is so
safe to take, for it is made of foots
and herbs. Dr. Pierce, of Buffalo,
N. Y., stands behind this' standard
medicine; and It Is good to know that
so distinguished a physician Is proud
to have his name Identified with it.
When you take Golden Medical Dis
covery; you are getting the benefit of
the experience of a doctor whose rep
utation goes all around the earth.
Still; more, you get a ' temperance
medlclpe that contains not a drop of
alcohol or narcotic of any kind. Long
ago Dr. Pierce combined certain val
uable vegetable Ingredients without
the- use of alcohol so that, these
remedies always have been strictly
temperance medicines.
If piles are torturing youj get and
use Pierce's Anodyne Pile Ointment.
The .quick relief it gives is hard to
believe until you try it. If constipat
ed, Dr. Pierce's "Pleasant Pellets
should be taken while using Anodyne
Pile Ointment. Few Indeed are the
cases which these splendid remedies
will not relievo Mild usunlly Over
come. They are so good that nearly
every drug store has them for sale.

Following their customary
numerous organizations planned to commemorate the tare

as a come-ou lure to the public and cloak the organiza

some, would rename mountains, some erect statues, some
building uieiuoiuals and some would preserve for future
generations Roosevelt's birthplace, his liome in the bad

Of course, as in -all such cases, some of tho promoters
of thes'e efforts are sincere hud' honest but; the bulk are
not and the history of similar veutures show that it
takes 90 cents or more out of every dollar' collected to de
fray'the cost of tho collection won hi cases .where some
of the mency contributed, eventually finds its way' to the
object for which it was giveri. -It is Ho unusual thing for
promoters to' contract to pay their silent partners 50 per

; ' Every mail brings to the newspaper offices" appeals
from some of the numerous

are organized among the enthusiasts and entertainments
follow for the cause the profits of which are eaten up
by the costs. Usually however the appeal is made direct
ly through the mails and sniall contributions asked from
the millions'. " ' " ' ' Z ' " ' ?
The "investigation inadc
New York showed hundreds of 'pseudo-relief organiza

one amublanee was sent over as the result of nearly a
$100,080 contributed the balance being taken by the
grafters. Most of these -relief efforts were nominally
headed by sincere men oi' women, who found themselves
victimized along with' public and the same will be
found with the Roosevelt memorial fluids. ; , "
It is questionable whether
preciate the doubtful honors sought to' be conferred upon

would be extremely distasteful to him. To use the sorrow
