passengers except when he has
searoh or arrest warrant. He served
warning on the publio to this effect
thru the Mail Tribune.
If McDonald as a deputy sheriff of
Jackson county persists in his an-
nounced course he will invite much
trouble tor himself, as the conductors
and trainmen have received orders to
eject him from any train on which he
attempts to examine any baggage of
any passenger, or interfere with the
, passengers' liberty, without a war
rant ; '

, this division of the Southern Pacific,
Who came to Medford today to per
sonally convey the news to McDonald.

here for a week past thru his absence
at Portland looking after the. prose
cution of a man there on the charge
of smuggling liquor into the state,
and whom he followed from Monta
gue, Calif., to Portland. " i

This bill, the most Important in
the legislative session, aside from the
ten million road toond bill, was han
dled in the senate by Senator Eddy ot
Douglas county and in the house by
Representative Sheldon of ' Jackson
county. It Is to be referred to the
people at a special election to be held
June 3d.
Medals for Soldiers
Under the provisions of a house
bill (number 326) Introduced by
Representatives Sheldon and Idleman
the. state has provided for the giving
of a seat, specially designed, broxen
medal to every soldier, sailor and
marine enrolled In the service ot the
United States during the recent war
who have entered the service from
the state of Oregon.

; . Though the Blackden familv has re
sided in Jackson conntv for the past
ten years, part' of the time, at Ash-
land and latterly in Medford. Earl
Blackden himself was not well known
in the city, having been here but very
little.' He enlisted at the beginning of
the war in the marine corps at Los
Angeles. . . -
. P. D. Blackden has been working
in the ship yards at Portland for the
.: past year, and his wife and children
reside on West Jackson street. . R. S.
Blackden came to the city today from
..Glendale to convey the sad new to
I his mother. -

treasurer, state librarian and the ad
jutant general. -
Secures Army Tracks
As a result of a joint resolution by
Representative Sheldon adopted -by
the present legislature requesting the
war department to arrange for the
state of Oregon or any of the counties
of the state securing the use of some
ot the many hundreds first-class
trucks used by the war department
on the Pacific coast during the war.
Information was received at Salem
today that a war department officer
would be In Portland Friday and Sat
urday of this week to confer with in
terested parties regarding this mat
ter. Representative Burdlck of Des
chutes county and Representative
Sheldon ot Jackson county, left for
Portland immediately following the
adjournment Thursday to consult
with this representative of the war
department to arrange for some of
these trucks for their respective coun
ties. In case their county courts made
formal request for the same.
