above. The prediction of fair weath
er for tonight and Sunday will be
generally welcomed, especially by the
anglers who have planned trying
their Juek at various river points.

The southwest corner of West
Slain and Laurel streets now pre
sents a much improved appearance,
as the one-story frame photograph
gallery which together with the old
dilapidated dwelling adjoining had
long been eyesores, was sold and
moved away this week. The dwelling
house was recently torn down and
moved away.

L. W. Castor has received his dis
charge from the service and arrived
today from Camp Lewis, en route to
his home near Derby.
Leland Denzer who was In the ser
vice at Vancouver, Wash., arrived
home today.
Tomorrow is ground hog day when
the old time tradition is that if the
ground hog comes out of his hole and
sees his shadow it means six months
more of winter. But' If he does not
see his shadow spring is here, ac
cording to the adage. Inasmuch as
fair weather Is predicted for Sunday
the chances are that Sir. Groundhog
will see the shadow and retire to his
hole for a further season of Winter.
According to Dr. W. F. Shaw, city
health officer of Yreka, the flu epi
demic has abated in that city, as only
two new cases, both of mild charac
ter, were reported to him during the
past week.

the street of pedestrians on Slain
street between Front street and Cen
tral avenue yesterday afternoon, nnd
