Mr. and Mrs. W. II. Gore and
daughter Mary are ill with the Influ
enza at their ranch home on the
Jacksonville road. Mr. Gore and son
Jay only recently returned from
Camp Logan, Texas, where Jay, who
was in military service, suffered a
serious attack of the flu and was op
erated on shortly afterwards for ap
pendicitis from which he is still con
valescing.

war will be compiled and filed In the
state library at Salem for permanent
reference. . The state librarian is pre
paring a history of all the Oregon
boys who were in service and has
written all the city, town and county
superintendents asking the coopera
tion of the teachers of each county in
obtaining the records of all the boys
of the county who were in service.
Questionnaires will be sent out to
each district to be filled by those
homes who have or have had men Id

ing the state committee on thrift
conference at Portland, stated that
Jackson county had won "the ' 5
prise given by the State Bankers as
sociation for the 'best county- showing
by school pupils, in the thrift cam
paign. The state committee is mak
ing plans for the conduct of this
year's thrift campaign.. From Port

much regret that Harold D. Foster,
deputy forest supervisor -of the Cra
ter national forest, has 'been trans
ferred to tho federal district forestry
office at Portland where he will bo in
charge of forest servtce mapping and
surveys for the district including
Oregon, Washington and Alaska. MY.
Foster assumes the position, which Is
a merited promotion, at once, ana
leaves with Mrs. Foster, this evening
for Portland, leaving the remainder
ot the family here until they have
become settled In a home. Mr. Fos
ter has been an officer of the Crater
National forest and a resident of
Medford for the past ten years, and
he and his family have made many
Intimate friends in this city and thru
out the county in that time. His suc
cessor In the local office has not yet
been announced. .

LOOMIS Almon Lavorno Loomis,
one ot the respectod and beloved cit
izens of Medford, passed away early
Thursday, Jan.- 2, of paralysis, with
which he was stricken last week, at
the age ot 65 years. He hud been
unconscious for several days prior to
bis death.. He was born at Harts
grove, Ohio, Jan." 3, 1S54. He was
educated at Austlnburg university at
Ashtabula, Ohlo.'When a young man
he went to Chicago, and lived there
a number of years. Later ho moved
to Fargo. North Dakota, where he
was postmaster for five years under
"McKlnley; he also served In tho state
legislature of North Dakota. He was
an active member ot the Masonic
lodge, and a charter member of tho
Medford lodge of II. P. O. E.
' , He was married to Edith Ellsworth
In May, 1903, at Colse, Idaho. In tho
fall of 1910 he removed with his
family to Medford, Oregon, whord ho
had been In the orchard -business
ever since. -
He was a member of the following
lodges:'' Blue Lodge. "Xo. 1, Shlloh
Lodge No. 5, Royal Arch Mason, and
El Zagal Shrlners, all of North Da
kota, and Medford lodge. No. 1168,

- He leaves one sister, Mrs. John
