The .end of Ihe present unusual
severe cold spell Is not yet in sight as
the official prediction of this mor
ning was for continued cold and fair
weather. The cold record for this
winter and for four years past was
broken on New Year's day with a
temperature of 10.8 degrees above
zero. The day prior to that the min
imum temperature was 12 degrees.
The present cold spell started the
previous day with a (temperature of
26 degrees.
The New Year's day record was
the coldest it has been In Medford for
the past four years, i On Dec. 21st,
1914, a temperature of 11 degrees
above was reached, and on Dec. 30,
1915, the mercury registered 12 de
grees above. This morning's lowest
temperature was 11 V4 degrees.
Much damage and inconvenience
was caused in many homes the past1
three days because of freezing water
pipes, and these are busy times for
Medford plumbers.

dividend was declared by the direc
tors of the Ford Motor company at
their annual meeting December 31
it was announced here this forenoon.
The dividend, which represents a
disbursement of $4,000,000 among
seven stockholders, is payable 100
percent January 1 and 100 percent

Again Medford is favored with an
attraction in the musical world by
way of a string quartet, and that one
the Zoellner quartet of Brussels.
In this organization we find that
art which rnakes us love music whe
ther we be educated in that particu
lar field or not. It is tho poorly
interpreted colorless music which
causes many to think they do not
care for it; hut when one "hears the;
throbbine. milsatlnz music of a
tring ensemble as offered by such
artists as the Zoellners, one decides I
that such music cannot fail to reach
the heart. These artists play Satur
day evening In the Preshyterian

got back to work today after its holi
day rest. It was expected that most
of the senate session would be devot
ed to discussion of .peace and other
