Sergeant David Towell came In on
the evening train to visit a few days
with Charles Skeeter. Ho returned a
short time ago from France where. he
has been in the service with the fa
mous Rainbow division.

and sailors either home on furlough
or who have been discharged from
service the streets of Medford this
week have had a picturesque mili
tary and naval appearance. It Is ex
pected that the number of uniformed

at the public market this morning,
most patrons and stallkeepers re
gaining at home on account of- the
snowstorm. Tho market will be open
next Tuesday morning, but beginning
with next week and until further no
tice will only bo open Wednesdays
and Saturdays. This change is made
because of the difficulty of obtaining
market produce and meats this time
of the year.

ment service ot Medford has put a
number ot soldiers in permanent
Jobs on farms and in orchards. Thoy
could have placed many more In such
positions had they consented to go,
but Superintendent Janes says most
returned soldiers are looking for jobs
in cities and towns.

Benjamin F. Brannon, a pioneer
race hprse owner of Eugene and well
known all over the Pacific northwest
thrn his former connection with race
meets, died at his home In Eugene
recently at the age of 85 years, four

Mrs. Martha Spoonor received a
telegram from tho government yes
terday of the death of her son. Ani
mus Spooner on Doc. 8, from valvu
lar pneumonia. It was a sevoro shock
to her as she had received a letter
from him written Nov. 29, that ho
might not write again before ho loft

of Eaglo Point, who tiled In St. Vin
cent's hospital at Portland on Christ
mas day of influenza, arrived In Med
ford on this morning's train and wns
taken to Eaglo Point for burial. Pri

er of the dead man, accompanied tho
remains from Portland. Roy Vestal,
who was 39 years and Bix months old
and a singlo man, had hecn working
In Portland for some timo prior to
his death. He was only sick six days.
