flvenza reported Thursday but Health
Officer E. B. Picket declared there
was good reason to believe the back
of the epidemic had been broken.

John E. Stewart who has been ill
with the flu for several weeks, was
able to be down town Christmas day
for the first time since he was taken
sick. He expects to be able to open
the Quiz cigar store within a few
days.
Instead of the predicted rain, cold
weather continued to prevail last
night and this morning, altho the
temperature had moderated, the
mercury registered 21 degrees as
against 19 V4 Thursday morning and
18 on Wednesday morning.
Earl Smedley who recently return
ed home from service In the army
spruce division, went to Grants Pass
today to visit friends there for sev
eral days.

Corporal Robert C. Brophy Is at
home on a fifteen day furlough from
Camp Lewis.
Mr. and Mrs. J. Single held a fam
ily reupion at their home last Mon
day evening as all the members of
their family are at home for the holi
days. Their son, Henry Single and
wife are here from Eugene, their
daughter, Mrs. L. G. Richardson and
her daughter Helen from Amity, Ore.
Mrs. William Thompson and small
daughter spent Christmas with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Theo. Fish of
Phoenix. Mr. Thompson Is still con
fined to the house.

family dinner on Christmas day.

today by Dean J. R, Angell of the
University of Chicago at tho opening

Athletic association's annual conven
tion.
Addressing more than 100 dele
gates he cited as "a splendid chapter
in the development ot American man
power" the recreational features of
army training effected by the war
department.
"Why should the college be less In
telligent tn this matter than our mili
tary authorities?" he asked.
Dean Angell urged colleges to
seize the atter-the-war opportunity
to take over the entire physical and
moral education of their students.
