for Tacoma and boarding the train
lio decided to purchase a pair of

the train was waiting. Just as

from the store and started for the
rear car calling to the train crew to
"Hold 'or." Tho crew did not hear
him. and had closed the platform
doors. The' frantic and breathless
supervisor just m.anaged to reach the

Tho remains of the late Miss 'Mary
K. Hartzell, instructor in organic and
food chemistry, who died here yes
terday morning following a brief 111

Mrs. E. P. Guthrie has received
word that her younger brother Cyril
Leigh-Spencer died of influenza in
the Canadian hospital in Paris on the
11th of December. Mrs. Guthrie
leaves for Victoria, B. C, tonight
to be with her mother whom she ex
pects to bring back with her and take
south for the winter.

The new train schedule for the
Southern Pacific which goes into ef
fect tomorrow makes.no changes In
arrival and departure of passenger
train's to and from Medford. The
time of departure of trains from
Portland and San Francisco Is earlier
shortening the time between those
cities and Medford a little, in the
cases of several trains about a half
hour. Train 53 by the new time
leaves I Portland at 1 a. m., train 15
at It a. m., and train 13 at 8 p. m
