Luke Creek he had broke a castlni
on his truck and had to leave it and
come out to try to tret the superin
tendent of the mine on the phone.
On Sunday our phone office is not
open only from 10 to 12 a. m. and
from 3 to 5 p. ni.. and so he came on
here, to await results. He finally cot
him on the phone but I have not heard
the result. . .

Cross has been expended In the coun
tries of Europe, The Red Cross has
been rendering Invaluable service
here at home, and in Oregon Itself
the organixation Is spending a large
sum every week. In offering relief to
the dependents of American fighters
and In furnishing clothing. There
has been no advertising ot this class
of work for tho Red Cross does not
advertise Its good works. It sees that
there Is a job to be done and it goes
and does it.
As a mattor of history It Is known
that tho arrival of tho Red Cross in
Italy was the turning point of the
war in that nation and was the first
assurance the Italian soldiers and
civilians had that America was in tho
game and coming to their assistance.
The work ot the Red Cross In Bel-
glum Is a story which cannot be told
In one book, and the same Is true of
Its relief work among the refugees of
France, and now It is operating in
Russia.
Membership Is wanted by the Red
Cross big membership, the biggest
of any organization in the world, for
it Is carrying on a world of work.

Miss Rose Jones has recolved word
of the death of ber youngest brother,
Peter, on November 24 th, at Star
City, Canada. Miss Jones has an
older brother who Is just recovering
from a severe attack of the influenza
William Thompson's severe cold
has developed into tho pneumonia,
and the doctors thinking It advisable
he was moved into the Dow hospital
Monday. Altho he has not shown
much Improvement as yet, he is, at
least, holding his own.

old friend of the Joe Hoagland fam

Hoagland home.
