A mooting ot chrome producers or
tho county was held yesterday foro
noon In tho chamber ot commerce
quarters, suy tho Yrcka J.'ow. The
mooting was called at the Instance
of Secretary Walter 11. Chase ot the
Northern California Counties associ
ation which organization is endeav
oring to lend assistance In bringing
order out or tho chaos or tho cromc
situation. C. J, Uiltroll presided.
The meeting was a decidedly rop
ronentatlvo ono tho composed only
of tho smaller operators. About 21)
woro present and a canvass ot the
amount or chrome held by them
ready for shipment mudo a total of
2.100 Ions. For various reasons none
of the hcavlor producers wore pres
ent, hut a good working knowledge
of the gonorul sltuutlon was arrived
at from information which some one
or thoso present was able to supply.
Market conditions and production
wero discussed nt some length and It
appeared to be the consonnus or opin
ion that assistance should be lent the
Pacific Coast Chronio Producers as
sociation In bringing about stable
conditions applying to both market
and price. A meeting ot this organ
ization was held in San Francisco
yesterday aftornoon and a telegrama
was sent to It. A. Murray who was In
attendance as a rc?rsentalive from
Siskiyou county.
A representative will be sent to
Washington by the Pacific coast as
sociation and it Is nnderstood the
matter will come up for action on
the 15th and 16th Instant. Chrome
miners will then know whether It
will be possible to develop the in
dustry or whether it Is something to
be abandoned at a loss.
Somo very interesting Information
was brought out at the meeting. For
Instance, tho question was asked bow
much it would be possible tor Sis
kiyou county to produce. This was
something all conceded to be utterly
impossible to answer. They agreed
that tho possibilities were simply in
calculable. There are Immense de
posits which have never been opened,
and under favorable conditions for
developing deposits ,the production
would run Into thousands, of tons
monthly. The amount produced by
those prcsont was estimated at 1000
tons monthly, but under favorable
conditions Interests represented by
Clnudo K. Ulllls,, for , instance, con
tomplatod tho production of 2000
monthly alone, so that It 13 impossi
ble to conceive the possibilities of
tho Industry in the county. It is
certain, however, that under condi
tions that will permit operating at
all it will mean many millions, and
tho outcome or offorts In behalf of
the Industry is awaited with much
interest.. . i

BKRMN, Friday, Dec. 6. (Via
Copenhagen). Tho summary of the
address delivered by President Wil

which has reached here Is presumab
ly Inadequate and hence there has
been tittle comment on It In the news
papers. One of them, however, the
Korresponimnz, organ of the national
liberals, declares that the Ucrnmns
will seek in vain for any substantial
'omfort In tho message. It expressos
tho belief that President Vilson's
program, to which Germany sup
jiflfwl the United States and the al
lies bad pledged thomsclvex, will
tiuvo only a shadowy existence at the
peace conference.
A large majority of Germans bo-
llovo In President Wilson's good in

(oar which amounts almost to a set
tled belief that ho will be unable to
