There Is an effort being made tof
organize a company of the Oregon
National Guard of one hundred and
ion members. Thwe are already be
tween sixty and eighty applications
ou file, and the prospect is that the
company will bo organized In the
next few days. The object Is to get
back lo the tame basis In military
affairs in the state as wo were before
the war. When tho Oregon Guards
were taken Into the government serv
ice, It left the stato practically with
out any military organiaztion, and
the state police and the stale guard
and home guards wero organized to
guard the state's Interests. If teh
company is organized here, the state
and government will probably furn
ish them with arms and ammunition
and a place for headquarters, for
which arrangements are partially
made.

Mrs. O'Hara waa a uohle character
and lived a teait if ul Christian life,
a devoted wife and mother.
On account of delicate health she
was not able to tako active part In
public life for tho last few years. Yet

finding ways to help. Her great
heart of sympathy prompted her to
many deeds of benevolence and the
wholo community feels that they
have lost a friend and extend their
sympathy to tho bereaved family.

who appears at the Page theater.
Wednesday evening, Nov. 27th, was
born in Poland. He received his
ea.-ly cdiuatlon In his own country.
was brought to America when he
was but eighteen years ot age. He
made a very successful concert tour
for so youns an artist. After re
maining in this country about a year
be returned to Paris. While there he
gave a concert at which the cele
brated Salot-Saens was present.
Saint-Seans Imertlately recog-
nicd the genius of this young artist
and took him under his personal tu
ltion where he remained for three
years. Under the guidance of this
master he developed into a perform
er that was destined to startle the
musical world.
After leaving Paris ho toured the
different European countries and ap
peared in London where he created
the greatest sensation of any pianist
that had ever visited England. Aft
er receiving his many ovations
abroad, ho returned to this country
to make It his permanent homo und
is now a genuine American, having
married an American girl. God-
owsky is pre-eminently the greatest
performer and all-around musician
before the public.
Mr. Godowsky in his entertain
ment on Wednesday evening will be
assisted by Miss Marguerite Hughes,
the beautiful lady violinist.
