The Hiuoke haze which hunt; over

A fresh forest fire on Steve's fork
of CurbeiTV creek near Stcninhoat in
the Applcgutc district, which had been
burning- for sevrul days, und which
now covers 1.IMHI acres, was funed
hy a high wind which arose yesterday
into 11 swift spreading; and truveling
coufrngrnliou. So fust did the fire
tm vol that "Dr. Knrker, the retired
physician of Jacksonville who is the
lookout lit the forest lookout stution
on Steve's punk, hud barely time to
escape with hi life. He saw the
flumes coming up the mountuin ut
some dislnii;-c nwuy nnd seizing ti

The flumes reached the lookout stu

destroyed it mid all its contents. As
yet this forest tire has not gotten into
heavy timber.
A huiie fire with n 14 miles front is

Many Brush Fires
Another brush file eoverinir several

A smuller fire in timber and brush, -which
us yet has only burned over 1 (Id

The local forestry office is badly

There was nn ancient soldier soug.
These warring times remind me.

Of'the girl I left behind me."
Rut now the girl yon leave behind.
With mingled tears nud laughter.
Pelieve uie, boys, she's not the kind
To be behind hereafter!
For now the gil l's behind the plow,

Behind the whole, big, bloomm' row.
And who shall dare di-count her
Behind the town, ltelun.l the farm.
She dtHs her daily grind, and
