Barley is giving poor yields of fair

erage yield: Considerable threshing
of winter wheat was done, with fair
to good yields reported.' Corn is tns
seling generally. Cool wentber has
boen unfavorable for it.
' Meadows under irrigation are doing
very well. The third prop of alfull'a
: being cut in Jackson -county ami
has a good start in Josephine. The
second crop promises well in Klam
ath, Malheur and Wallowa counties.
Non-irriguted fields are very poor.
Pastures and ranges are short and
dry. While in some "laces cattle arc
losing flesh, they arc looking better
than unfavorable conditions! would
seem to warrant.
Pears are bing picked in southern
counties. They are plentiful and of
excellent duality. 'Large shinments
the coining month are in prospect.
Tv weather is causing some fruit to
fall in Linn count" arid trees havr
been broken and fruit blown off by
a high winds in Josephine county. A
small crop pi crawioru peaches is
being harvested in Jackson county
and n fair crop in Wasco county.
Ruins are greatly needed for unr
dens of all kinds, Hops show effects
of drouth and the red spider is dam
aging; them. There is a fair crop of
flax in Marion county.

spent the first of the week here visit
ing friends. He expects to leave

Dial Dubell of Canyonvllle, spent
Monday here with his grandparents,

he has employment.

Cleveland expocts to visit here for at
least a month. She and Mrs. Thomp
son were school-mates at Mills col
lege. Those returning from camping
trips in the hills tell of delightful
days but decidedly chilly nights In
the open.
Miss Pearl Pankey of Central
Point, was a dinner guest at the W.
K. Parker home Sunday.
People iu this vicinity have been
much interested this past week In
watching the signalling from the
lookout station on the summit of Mt.
Pitt. . .
