Word has been received here that
the Ashland soldier boys who went
east recently via Spokane, have ar
rived at Camp Mills, a notable milt
tary center near New York.
The teachers at Soda Springs next
term will be Miss Grace Davis in the
upper district, and Mrs. Nell Peachey
Dunn in the lower dlstrlot.
Mrs. Pearl Dodge, local representa
tive among recent graduates of the
Southern Pacific training school at
San Francisco, Is now employed at
the University Avenue railway sta
tion in Berkeley, Cal.
Dr. Gordon MacCracken, surgoon
in the medical reserve corps, Is a
welcome visitor here on brief fur
lough. He ranks as captain in the
service. He is on bis way to San
Francisco, having filled assignments
at Fort Worden and Pullman, Wash.
Sid Wise, who formerly managed
a local movie show here, is visiting
his children and numerous friends in
this1 vicinity. 'He now conducts a
confectionery establishment at Camp
Lewis.
Zen as Moody and Frank Blevln
have just comploted the transporta
tion of a lot of equipment from the
Ashland mine to the depot, where It
was shipped on Saturday to tho
Plymouth Consolidated Gold Mining
company., in Amador county, Cal.,
one of the leading properties in the
Mother Lode group. This machinery
aggregated about 30 tons in weight,
some of the Individual pieces being
large and Cumbersome, especially the
pebble mill which weighed six tons, a
massive afralr in one solid piece. The
equipment was never In use here,
having boon dumped on the moun
tain side near the site ot a proposed
stamp mill when tho prospects of re
opening the mine's activities wcro at
their zenith. Tho men were about a
month in actual time on the moving
job.
Jack Morris, pioneer merchant
here in specific lines several years
ago, Is revisiting Ashland, accompan
ied by a friend, Clyde Sharp, who is
looking about this vicinity with a
view of locating. Mr, Sharp is en
gaged in the stock business and Jack
is dealing In general housefurnlsh
ings. Gerald Wenner, former bookkeep

Mastler, who died last Friday, were
