Many deaths oeeurred in these two

of Kranee is suffering frivutly, nn are
the people of Spain and Portugal.
In Britain the disease is not con

Iji Leeds, Manchester, Herts, Kgliam,
Sheffield and Hirminejmm certain
schools and factories have been clos

DRAFT PLANS TO
MEN OE 18 TO 45
WASHINGTON, Aug. f). Plans for
legislation to liberalize the draft regu
lations ure being worked out at the
war department, Secretary linker
said today after his appearance be
fore the senate military committee
to urge prompt enactment, of the new
draft bill extending the ages to in
clude between 18 and 45 years.
Mr. Baker thought it possible that
the whole method of fixing deferred
classification would be changed so its
to relieve registrants of the duty of
claiming or refusing to claim exemp
tion. .Many other signs as to liberaliza
tion of the regulations nre being con
sidered, he said. Among others is the
possibility that the marriage relation
ship by itself, regardless of the de
pendency question, may serve to de
ter the time of a registrant's call to
the colors.
Mr. Maker said definitely that no
plan of extending the work or fight
rules to professional classes or be
yond its present scope was under
consideration.
The war .secretary contemplates
dividing all registrants into two
classes so far us (hose in class one
jo. The first would be composed of
men between IB and 1!) years and the
second of these between ) and 4"
years. The object is to provide that
the ID year old class shall be drawn
upon only when the man power sit
uation makes it absolutely neci-M-ry.
