Mrs. Donald Clark recently re
eelved a thrilling letter from Miss
Dorothy Conner describing her experi
ences in the recent German drive
which smashed thru limine, France,
where Miss Conner had charge of a
canteen. Brulne Is on the Vesle riv
er between Soissons and Hhelms, to
ward which the allied forces are now
making rnpid progress.
Miss Conner, daughter of Mrs
Charlos Connor, formerly of Jackson.
vllle. was on (he Lusitania when the
boat was sunk, and had a narrow es
cape from death. Nothing daunted
she soon returned to take up relief
work near tho fighting lino, and had
been at Braino many months ivhcn
the Germans broke thru the Chemin
Dos Dames and drove south.
Miss Conner describes the fright
ful bombardment and seeing tile Ger
man planes coming over the northern
horizon. A French soldier pointed
to them and said, "They are only
a few miles ahead of the German ad
vanced guards." After tending sev
eral wounded soldiers Miss Conner
hastily got together a few personal
belongings and climbed into a Ford
car bound for Paris the Inst car to
lonve before the Invading forces ar
rived. She lost several valuable ar
ticles, and tho cuntoon of course with
till Its supplies and furnishings fell
Into the hands of the Germans.
Miss Conner Is now In Purls and
wrote that as soon ns the allies swept
back the hated Huns she would re
turn to llraine and continue her re
lief work.

IN ENGLAND JULY 1ST
C. W. Adams, brother of Ernest
Adams .of Willow Springs, who was
killed In an aeroplane accident In
England a few weeks ago, has re
ceived a letter from a Red Cross cap
tain in London giving some details
of the fatal accident.
Adams was flying -with an instruc
tor, and when making a landing the
machine hit a mess of telephone wires
which turned the machine over, hurl
ing it to the ground. Adams was
Instantly killed while the Instructor
was Injured seriously. The writer
expressed gratitude that the deceased
did not suffer and was not disfig
ured, adding: "He was a fine, clean
cut American boy, one that his coun
try may well be proud of."
Adams was buried July 1st at Lin
coln, England, beside 11 other Amor
lean flyers who gave their lives while
preparing to meet the Bocho at
the front.
