The firo lit nn enrly hour tills mor
nhiKnliiK which ilit royi?l llio Oregon
Rooming limine IjiiIMIiik und thrwo
Bhacks at the corner of Front and
Third streets, and which for a time
threatened to conitnunlcato to neurby
dwellings, was nnrioiiliteilly of Incen
diary origin and Is lielng Investisat-
cd by the authorities and the Insur
ance companies In which the rooming
house building and itu runner con
tentB were insured.
The report that a nozzle of tho flro
department waa defective and greatly
hindered the flroineu -from getting
water on Lite flames promptly is er
roneous. All the flro department
equipment, including tho nozzle over
which thero was trouble, were in
good condition. The trouble was
caused by a lilork of wood about an
Inch und a half In diameter being
forced Into the hozo nozzle. Thlu
block wus no doubt washed into the
main pipe during last spring's freshet
Hut oven then It only caused a delay
of a few minutes In the playing of onu
stream, and two other hose streams
were played on tho flames all this
time. To quell the firo tho depart
ment had thrt'e streams lit use.
. 1'niliiilily Incendiary
The Oregon Rooming House and
shacks were owned by Irwin tfuhack,
also the furniture on tho huuso which
wua recently stored In one of the
shacks. The building was a two
story fruinu und was originally 'built
and used for tho Catholic church.
Iuter It was remodeled into a room
lug house.
When tho flro was first discovered
nt 1 a. m. smoko wus seen coming
from tho smoko pipe of the kitchen
of the building. Tho structure hud
not been occupied for Boms time. Tho
flumes spread rapidly and the neigh
borhood foriblocks around was alarm
ed. People In tho dwellings near tire
raging flro began to move out tholr
furniture. A largo crowd gathered
and Ibucket brigades wo,ro fornicd
nnd streams of garden hose wero
played on tho roofs und sides of the
nearest threatened buildings.
Tho flumes soon communicated to
telephone poles nnd meltod tho
charged wires which fell down nnd
added much to tho spectacular sceno
The melting und falling wires ex
tinguished tho lights In tho streets
nnd residences In 1ho neighborhood.
The flumes lighted up a largo portion
of tho city nnd created general alarm
and excitement even in thoso sections
remoto from the firo.
l-'lrn Spectacular
If the firemen and police havo any
dliect cvlleiKu as to Incendiarism
nr. ! us ., '.;;) actually sturted tho
t ie they are keeping tho knowledge
to themselves. However, they are
positive that an Incendiary started
the fire. "I feel absolutely certain
that the fire was of incendiary ori
gin" said Fire t hief l.iiwton today.
I'ullce Chief -Kittson also firmly holds
to this opinion.
One of the destroyed shacks was
occupied by a (lieek named Messlnio
und he lost nil his furniture und ef
fects. The flames also destroyed the
woodshed and chicken house of the
V, W. Xorman residence.

the, smoothest and most professional
presentation ever witnessed in south
ern Oregon.
The east was evenly balanced, and
ouch of th5 principal-, took hold of
their parts with an niiaty.atiou and
understanding that is remarkable.
"The three little maids from school"
looked the part of I he "Three Little

ful, and snug the furt delightfully.
Kdna Isaacs was the real l'eep Ho,

Kiiijf was a dream, und in her several
dunces flouted over the stue like
thistle down.
Mrs. Chandler Kmi in the part of
Xnuki-I'oo, was a wandering minstrel
loiiij to be remembered. Her inter
pretation of the role was a scholarly
piere of acting, and showed (hat she
uiiderstood exactly what Mr. (iilliert
intended the character of Niiuk'.-I'u
to be.
Fletcher Fish as Ko-Ko finally
struck his pi it. Fletcher Una appear

the valley, hut lat nijiht his stock
went up out of ssijfht. He reminded
you of F.d Andrews all the wny
through the part, and that is about
as liiyh a compliment as we could pay
him. His scene with Katishu in the
lust act wus down rijrht funny.
Adele lira lilt as Katisha wus u,uitc
a surprise to her audience us they all
know Katisha is a very difficult part
to plav, but Miss Hrault went into her
part like an old-timer. She has a
true enius for comedy, n thing you
seldom find in the "entler sex. She
also possesses an unusual voice and
sang the role with dramatic force.
Mr. Sheets as fish Tush held up

Mali and Mikado played their parts
with professional finish. Airs. An

Too much cannot be said of the
chorus. They presented ft beautiful

ume and precision and showed that
they had been splendidly trained.
fleorge Andrews has again demon
