RED CROSS AT
LAKE CREEK FEEDS
FIVE HUNDRED
Tho Sunday chicken dinner held
by the Lake Creek lted 'ross auxili
ary for tho benefit of the Hod Cross
was a big success as hundreds of peo
ple from .Mcdford and all parts of tho
county will testify. Tiio dinner was
given nt the home of Mr.' an'tP Mrs.
Lent Charley between ltrotvusboro
and l.ako Creek.
About fiOO neoplo wero In attend
ance and tho price per plato was 50
cents. All tho furniture was taken
out of tho lower part of the house
to mako ronin for tho diners, and ta
llies wero fixed on the porches and In
the yard. It required over two hours
to feed tho multitude who were con
stantly arriving by auto and other ve
hicles. Cars were parked all about
the yard and ham and for a great
distance in both directions along the
road.
The bountiful dinner was served
on tho cafeteria plan, which system
worked splendidly. , All the edibles,
etc., had been donated by tho people
of tlie Lake Creek district, so tho
monoy taken in was all profit. It
is estimated that the total receipts
from tlie dinner and the auctioning
of cakes and other things which fol
lowed, were about $2S0. Mayor Gates
of .VIedford auctioned off tho cakes,
several of which brought as high as
$3.25 each.
For some time the women of the
Lake Creek auxiliary have been mak
ing socks for the soldiers from the
raw wool which is donated by the
residents of the district, and a strik
ing feature of the dinner yosterday
was the exhibiton of the old-fnsh-loned
spinning wheel and tho wool
combing cards, and tho socks already
made.
