known proprietor of the Elkhorn
store) died suddenly last Saturday
at his home near Aloha, in the vicin
ity ot Beaverton, Ore.- Funeral was
held In Portland on Monday, his re
mains being cremated. Mrs. Paulson
survives him. '

Pataskala, O., were guests of Mr. and
Mrs. A. M. Beaver the first of the
week. The visitors are touring the
country In a big touring car of the
Chalmers type. Mr. Callaway Is a
capitalist engaged in the oil refining
business In the Buckeye state.
An old clothes barn dance will be
an attraction at the Parsons ranch,
one mile north of Hilt, Saturday eve
ning, May 18. The location is a mile
north of Hilt and the entertainment
which includes an auction sale of
lunch baskets, will be given In be
half ot tho Hilt branch of the Red
Cross. Local parties will help fur
liish the crowd and tho music. The
Parsons ranch is a part of tho old
Cole properties -in the neighborhood
of Colcstln.
The final dairy meeting of the se

Another drive Is on, that of the
W. C. T. U. to increase its member
ship. Two captains have been se
lected and the team which secures

was very prettily decorated in the

spent in games and music, the even
ing being much enjoyed by nil.
An athletic field day nnd exhibition
of Red Cross nnd industrial work was
held at the schoolbouse on Saturday.
The rural schools represented were:
Muys creek, Foots creek, Wimer.
Savage creek nnd Pine Goose. The
varied athletic events were well con
tested and a baseball game was play
ed between local teams in the after
noon. Tho exhibit of JilTiior Red
Cross work, in which all the schools
took part, was' ruost creditable nnd
much admired by the large crowd
of visitors, which included Mr. G. B.
Agee, county ' school superintendent,
and Mr. Morrill, rural supervisor. The
Rogue River school board gave a
couple of prizes for sewing, which
were' won by' tiladys Sandey, ' first
prize, nnd Gladys Mooro, second
prize. ,
Class day will be held in the high
school on Friday afternoon, and in
the evening a series of pictures of
wild animals will bo given. Prices 5
and 10 cents,' in aid of the Junior
Red Cross.
The commencement exercises of the
Kogue River high school will be held
on Wednesday eveninir, Mav 22," at
8 p. m. in Owen's hall.
