Offlclal'lsstiuiates placed the num

million and fifteen million far
above the 1 0,(100, Opo of the second
loan, or 4,500,000 of the first and
some officials, expressed the belief
that tho roll of liond buyers would bo
even greater. To them this was one
of the most encouraging features of
tho loan. . -
All twelve federal reserve districts
which were the lurgest campaign
units, over-subscribed, and. a major
ity of tho states made the same rec
ord. Delaware doubled Its quota.
Bond selling continued actively in
many cities up to a luto hour tonight
nnd banks stayed open In a final ef
fort to roll up more sales than the
$1,416,000,000 of the second liberty
loan last October.
Big Money Held
Messages reaching Washington to
night, Indicated, however, that the
big subscriptions from corporations
and business interests which were
features of the last hours of the sec
ond campaign, were lacking, owing to
the imminence of income and excess
profits taxes paying time in June,
when more than $3,000,000,000' in
war levies will have to bo paid to tho
government.
Tho headquarters reviow tonight
described the final round-up in New
York as "probably the most striking
feature of the last day's campaign."
Within a few hours, $129,000,000
subscriptions were recorded, sending
the city and state of New York over
their quotas. The figure of $3,203,
6.15,400 offlclully recorded by the
treasury, covered business up to 3 p.
m. today, and Boston and Philadel
phia, which reported at 1 1 a. m. to
day. IniHiKsible to Kstimuto
"It Is impossible to estimate the
amount of subscriptions taken in the
various districts up to the close of
business tonight," snld the headquar
ters statement. "But the volume
doubtless will show an Increase over
tho latest official figures."
Tho Atlanta district, which has
been at the bottom of the percentage
column since thu campaign started,
April 6, sent this word tonight:
"Sales reported from all parts of
the district innlento that the quota
may bo exceeded !v more than 25
percent. We believe i!,at practically
every county nnd 'immunity will go
over the top."
HEAVY FROST FOR

it Is hoped that atmospheric coii'll

off the frost. The prediction reads
peculiarly. In that It says: "Tonight

Orchardlsts were much worried
last night and kept in close touch
with the local weather bureau until
the danger period was past. Iletween
