ford man who was badly Injured sev
eral weeks ago in an auto accident
near Hoseburg, was able to leave the
rtoscburg hospital Saturday and re
turn home. Altho he Is able to move
around on crutches It will probably
be a week or ten days bofore he will
be able to move around freely again.
He Is still suffering from a severe
hip strain.

The grand Jury Is holding a ses
sion this week and began Its sessions
at Jacksonville Monday morning. So
far as can be learned It will give con
sideration to six cases. Next Monday
the fall term "of circuit court will
begin.
E. B. Hanley returned Sunday from
his Alaskan canneries, where he
spent the Bummer. He reports a
good pack of Balmon, which are
bringing fancy prices. He states that
it rained most of the summer at the
cannery and one day 12 Inches fell
and 4 Inches was not at all unusual.

last March and were sent to the San
Diego training school. Ho reports
that alt tho Medrord boys there are
tu good health nnd spirits and says
that like himself they are anxious
for the training period to end and
their assignment to active service.

The latest addition to the many
forest fires burning thruout the
county is one that broke out In the
Butte Falls district of the forest re
serve Sunday. The local forestry of
fice sent several men from Medford
today to combat this fire. Nothing
was heard today from the several big
forest fires in the Elk Creek district
which are being fought by Forest Su
perior Erlckson and about 100 men,
but It is assumed that these fires are
still uncontrolled.
Earl KUllgan who has been visit
ing relatives here left this morning
for Salem, where he will visit other
relatives. He may decide to locate in
Salem.
James W. Gulnn of RIalto, Calif.,
who has been visiting Mr. and Mrs.
Eugene Amann, left for home today.
Mr. and Mrs. Aniann will probably
soon go to Oakland or Vallejo, Calif,
to reside this winter.
The American Bell Telephone com
pany has Just purchased five millions
dollars worth of the second Liberty
loan bonds far the company and its
employes. Telegraphic announce
ment of this action was received to
day by the office of the Home Tel

PORTLAND, Oct. 15. Members
of the federal adjustment board com
menced their work in Portland today.
They will examine into the strike sit
uation in tho steel nnd wooden ship
vnrds. More than 7000 men are on
strike and work stopped on a score of
vessels in nn advanced stupe of con
struction. The board is expected to
remain hero a week before going to
San Francisco. The findings and
recommendations of the members will
not be made public until investiga
tions on the Incific coast are com
pleted, it was announced.

Deceased wns the widow of Clias.
Lindsay, who died n number of years
ago. She was n native of Forfar
shire, Scotland, coming to America

well-known resident of this vicinity.
