REGULATION FOR
STREET BLOCKADES
Beyond passing the new ordinance
regulating billiard and pool rooms
and card rooms the city council ses
sion Tuesday night was colorless and
only matters of routine were disposed
of.
Informally the matter of Southern
Pacific trains blocking the street
crossings for long periods was dis
cussed, but no action to remedy this
situation was taken. However, it
was generally understood that In the
hear future the council will pass a
new ordinance to regulate the time
that passenger and freight trains can
blockade crossings.
The- present ordinance was passed
many years ago when the passenger
depot stood on Haymarket square
opposite the Xash hotel, and Is a dead
letter. The council will also take
steps in the near future to erase
other obsolete ordinances from the
city records and Teplace them with
up to date ordinances.
Dr. E. H. Porter and W. E. Phipps,
members of the school board, called
the attention of the council to the
fact, as the board claims, that the city
is charging the school district entire
ly too much money ror the water used
at tho various schools. Tho matter
was referred to the council water
committee nnd City Water Superin
tendent Arnsplger for further discus
sion and adjustment.

Does Your Money Fly Away?
If it does, you will say that
the high cost of living is to
blame, but you will be only
partly right. It Is true that
living is high aud that money
seems to take wings in spite of
all your efforts, but It is equally
true that tho people who have
savings accounts are still add
ing to them.
There is something signifi
cant in this. Many of these
depositors have no more money
than you, but somehow they
nianago to lay by a little each
week or month.
It you think this over, you
will see why a Savings Account
is a safeguard for you. It en
courages the saving habit so
much that even in hard times
you will find a way of. adding
to your account.
