whose homes are In Albany, Oregon,
and who were arrested late Sunday
night up In the Siskiyous while re
turning from Hilt or llornbrook with
24 quarts of whisky in their automo
bile, pleaded guilty before Justice of
the' Peace Trefren of Ashland (Mon
day and were assessed fines of 1
and costs.
The arrest was made by W. J. Car
penter, special liquor investlgntor of
County Prosecutor Roberts. The
charge against them was that of Im
porting liquor Into a dry state.
One night last week Sheriff Jen
nings and Deputy Sheriffs .Anderson
and Stansel! captured an 'ttuto party
of bootlcggei's returning from Horn-
brook. The driver of'tho car, who Is
said to be Charles- Martin of . Med
ford, escaped. Several shots fired
close to him failed to stop hltn. He
is still at large. The others of the
party wero taken to Ashlaud where
they wero fined fin and costs each
and given suspended jail sentences of
ninety days each.
