DESTROYED By FIRE
BANNING, C'ul., July 23. An en
tire Southern Pacific freight train of
2S cars was destroyed by fire result
ing from a wreck In which two brake
men were killed near hero,' railroad
officials reported today. The train
wan made up of fifteen loaded tank
cars and thirteen box cars filled with
barley. Flro from the wrecked loco-
laotlve Ignited oil In the tank cars, the
burning oil also spreading to nearby
orchards destroying nearly 100 acres
of apple trees.

National Guardsmen, numbering
about 2500, mobilized at their home
armories thruout the state today and
entered federal service. Tho troops
mobilizing were twelve companies
coast artillery corp3, four troops cav
alry, one hospital corps, two batterlos
field artillery and three engineering
corps. The coast artillerymen will
move to Fort Stovens shortly and the
other troops to Camp Withycombe.
