Business men of Marhfk-ld, anions
whom are a number of former Ash
land men, are arranging to run an ex
cursion to Ashland during the round
up celebration of that city on July 3,
4 and 6, from the Coss Hay country.
The local commercial club will prob
ably take steps to persuade the visi
tors to stop off at Medford on the
trip. The Grants Pass chamber of
commerce has already written- invit
ing the Coos Hay folks to visit their
city and surrounding country.

railroad are trying to locate the mys
terious stranger who knocked Private
Adam Garren of Companyl off a high
bridge at Graves Creek Into ono das
last week while he was guarding the
bridge. The man Is thought to be a
tramp. His description is as follows:
Height, 6 feet 8 inches, weight 165,
smooth shaven, Dandy complexion, red
hair, two teeth missing in front, wore
checked overalls and blue coat, and
carried a roll of blanketB. Gurrcn,
both of whose logs were fractured
above the knee by the fall, Is reported
as doing nicely at the Sacred Heart
hospital In this city, although it will
be probably six months before he has
fully recovered.

Prof. George Rebec of the Univer
sity of Oregon, will have charge of
the Portland center of the summer
school of the university, which will
begin In Portland June IS. Nearly
400 teachers of Portlnnd nnd vicinity
have signified their Intention of tak
ing the summer work in that city. Dr.
Rebec himself will direct two courses
one In psychology and the other In
philosophy of history.

Frank Workman, tho well known
ranches residing about two miles
south of the city, left last night for
Rochester, Minn., where he will again
be operated on by a famous surgeon
of that city. Two years ago -Mr.
Workman was operated on by the
same surgeon for stomach trouble and
was apparently cured, '.ately, how
ever, tho old trouble returned.

spending several days in the city en
route from I.os Angeles to Portland,
left for the latter city today. For
over two years they have been mak
ing their wny home from Havana,
Cuba, by daylight trips. They stop
ped as long as they pleased at any
place or section of the country that
pleased their fancy, and will keep this
program up until they finally reach
home.
