NOW IS TIE FOR
BOYS AND GIRLS
TO PLANT GARDENS
SUcrvisor Peterson has issued the
followinc; circular In the school chil
dren of Jackson county regarding the
prizes to be 11 warded at the eountv
fair for agricultural di-pluys:
To Girls and Hoys;
In niol:in'' preparation for the fairs
of the coming season, we should
keep in mind something: more than the
mere matter of makinpr exhibits, some
thing more than the winning of u
prize. There are several points to
keep in mind. The following; ones are
listed in what is considered the or
der of tlieir importance; the first,
no doubt, should bo given more con--iderution
than all the others com
bined :
1. We should work to produce
those thinirs which will be of most
use to our country. We know- that
every true American boy and girl
wants to do his or her part at this
time. There was never a greater op
portunity to do patriotic service'
than that winch confronts us now.
2. We should hear in mind that
if we produce the thinirs which are
needed, we shall find 11 ready market
for them nt good prices. But
if we produce only for our own home
use, we lire reducing our own Jionn
expenses and at the same time suvinj
a certain amount of drain from the
general stock of supplies.
3. Anyone 'who produces some
thing of real value is sure to gain
knowledge, triuninjf und habits that
will be of inestimable value to
him all the rest of his life.
4. Thoie who do real service as
producers will receive recognition as
being persons who are not only good,
but good for something. They them
selves will have the satisfaction of
increased self-esteem.
5. Prizes will be awarded, each
of which will be h recognition of
worthy achievement; and many of the
prizes will huve -considerable in
trinsic value.
The prize list for the juvenile de
partment of the Jackson county fair
for this year will probably be based
largely on the following items:
1. lteans.
2. Potatoes. '
3. Corn.
4. Tomatoes.
5. Onions.
ti. Poultry raising.
7. Haising of oulliy feed.
8. Pig raising.
II. Canning, with special empha
sis on team work.
10. Essays :
A How I made my summer

II How I made my tomato
patch pay.
O Value of tomatoes as a
food.
I) Value of onions as a food.
K How I made my garden

i juice ot Lemons!
How to Make Skin
At the cost of a small jar of ordi
nary cold cream one can prepare a
. full quarter pint of the most wonder-
I ful lemon skin softener and complex
ion beautifier, by squeezing the juice
of two fresn lemons into a bottle con
taining three ounces of orchard white.
Care should be taken to strain the
juice through a fine cloth so no lem
on pulp gets In, then this lotion will
keep fresh for months. Every wom
an knows that lemon juice is used to
bleach and remove such blemishes as
sallowness, freckles and tan and Is
the Ideal skin softener, smoothener
and beautifier.
Just try it! Get three ounces of
orchard white at any pharmacy and
two lemons from the grocer and make
up a quarter pint of this sweetly fra
grant lemon lotion and massage It
dally into the face, neck, arms and
hands. It naturally should help to
soften, freshen, bleach and bring out
the roses and beauty of any skin. It
is wonderful to smoothen rough, red
hands.
