too, according to Seely V. Hall, who
in a recent letter to a .Medford friend
writes: "Our mainstay is beans. We
have them baked, ruw, boiled, fried
and stewed, and then the cooks make
hash out of what Is left. Hut at that
one gets so he likes them."

Quite a number of Medford people
were Inconvenienced by the lateness'
of northbound passenger train No. 1C
due here at 6:20 p. m. Tuesday,
which did not reach Medford until
Wednesday at 4 a. ni. The non-arrival
of the "Daddy Long legs" com
pany, which was In that train, also
prevented the performance of the fa
mous play at the Page theai.ro Tues
day night, disappointed what would
have been a very large audience. The
train v.-as delayed by a freight wreck
near Dunsmuir, Calif.

R. Lee Sprague, who enlisted In
the navy on January 20th last, and Is
now In the electrical school at the
Mare Island naval training station,
has been so pleased with his experi
ences and lot In the navy, that for
some tlmo he has been working to
have his younger brother, Wayno, IK
years old, also enlist in the navy. His
efforts have proved successful, for on
Tuesday the boy enlisted at the re
cruiting office of Sergeant J. E. Nor
strom, with his parents' consent.

Hugh Elliott, well known .Medford
blacksmith, suffered a paralytic
stroke Tuesday afternoon while at
work in the Merrlman blacksmith
shop, of which he has had charge
since Tom Merrlmim went oa duty in
the naval reserve. Mr. Elliott was re
moved to his room at the Wise home
on Jackson street, and Mrs. Elliott,
who was visiting their daughters In
Portland, was notified by telegraph
Mrs. Elliott and daughters. Sirs. Er
nest Webb and Mrs. Mabel Buck, ar
rived in Medford this morning from
Portland. .Mr. Elliott's coudltion
