Funeral services of Georgo Van
Tassel, who died unattended last week
in his lonely cabin on Sampson creek,
east of town, took place on Friday
from Dodges undertaking chapel, con
ducted by liev. D. D. Edwards of the
Nuzaieiie church. Interment was in
Mountain View. No relatives were
present, neither has the location of
any of them yet been determined. The
deceased owned 'MO acres of land in
that locality acquired by homestead
rights. He had money in the bank,
and there is quite a lot of livestock
on his ranch premises.
Mrs. Elizabeth Van Saul has re
turned home after a winter's stay with
relatives in Portland.
The popular concert at the Metho
dist ehurch on Thursday evening of
this week, March S, will afford a first
class musical cutertainment as given
by the ehuivli choir under the direc
tion of Mrs. II. T. Klimire, leader, re
inforced by outside talent.
Ex-Governor Frank Byrne, of
South Dakota, is here for a brief visit
with relatives in the Heaver and Yock-
ey families. He is accompanied by
his son, Carroll, a lieutenant in the
naval submarine service, who is con
valescing, from a -protracted illness,
due to nervous collapse, and has been
in a government hospital in Son Fran
cisco for some time past. Lieutenant
Byrne's assignment has been with
the submarine K-8 in Hawaiian wat
ers, with Honolulu us the naval bahe

The meeting of local motorists at
the city hall last Thursday evening,
held in view of organizing an Ashland
fully presented the scope nnd aims of
the league, the activities of which ore
to benefit the state at laige and not
only Multnomah county. In the mean
time the matter of perfecting the
organization of u local branch is
under way.
During the month of February
1020 hogs, 1473 sheep, 0f head of
cattle and 83 horses were unloaded
for feeding at local stockyards. The
sheep went south, other shipments

Fred Putnam has received word
from his sister, the wife of Doe Lone,
residing nt Areata, Humboldt county,
California, that a fire recently de
stroyed u barn on their place. A
hired man lost his life in the flames,
also seven horses. Other contents in
the barn made the loss a heavy one.
Doe Lowe is a veteranarian and is
well remembered ns u former resident
of Mcdford and Klamath Falls.
